Top 7 Delightful Oasis in the World

[Not to be confused with the English rock-band.]

After posting the previous article  about  the 'Top 7 Island' An idea sprouted if I could post about a piece of land surrounded by water, why not post  about the opposite of that i.e. the Oasis. Oasis, the place where water and patches of greenery, life can be found in the middle of the dry and sandy deserted- desert. For me such place is a heavenly place, a Wonderland. Listed below are my favorite Oasis around the world.


1.Crescent Moon Lake - China
Crescent Moon Lake, this oasis is located approximately 6 km from the outskirts of the city of Dunhuang in Western China.This incredible oasis lies in the Gobi desert. Its known as Yueyaquan in Chinese, the crescent-shaped lake is a major tourist attraction where one of the world’s great shrines to Buddhism resides.

2.Huacachina Oasis - Peru
Huacachina is a small oasis town in the Ica region of southwest Peru. This oasis is also named as ‘Oasis of Americas’.Huacachina serves as a resort for local families from the nearby city of Ica, and increasingly as an attraction for tourists drawn by the sport of sandboarding on sand dunes that stretch several hundred feet high. The oasis also features on the back of the 50 Nuevo Sol note.


3.Timia Oasis - Niger
Timia is a spectacular oasis in Niger. It is at 6 hours drive from Agadez, Niger. Timia town exists by the timia oasis situated in the Aïr Mountains, Agadez Region. Orange and pomegranate laden branches of trees with a background of sand dunes create a spectacular sight. The oasis has date, palm and citrus trees, lush green gardens and a pool of water. Timia oasis is a perfect resting place for travelers, and to enjoy the serenity of nature.

4.Ubari Oasis - Libya
Ubari or Awbari is an oasis town and the capital of the Wadi al Hayaa District, in the Fezzan region of southwestern Libya. It is in the Libyan section of the Sahara Desert. It was the capital of the former baladiyah (district) called Awbari, in the southwest of the country.The Ubari oasis settlement is the second center for the Kel Ajjer Tuareg people, after Ghat. Neighboring villages include Germa, and Garran.

5.Chebika Oasis - Tunisia
Chebika belongs to the collection of unlikely desert oasis of the mountains north of the great Tunisian chotts. This least famous oasis offers perhaps the most effective and dramatic experience among them. Where the mountains rise, Chebika lies. Most of the year it is so exposed to the sun that it once was known as Qasr el-Shams, Castle of the Sun. 

6.Maranhao Oasis - Brazil
This oasis is located in Maranhao state of Brazil. It has been designated a national park by the government. Lying just outside the Amazon Basin, the region receives abundant rainfall at the beginning of the year, leading to the formation of beautiful lagoons of various hues. The region is home to the Caeté Indian people and is a major tourist attraction.

7.Ein Gedi - Israel
En Gedi is the largest oasis along the western shore of the Dead Sea. The springs here have allowed nearly continuous inhabitation of the site since the Chalcolithic period. The area was allotted to the tribe of Judah, and was famous in the time of Solomon (Josh 15:62). Today the Israeli kibbutz of En Gedi sits along the southern bank of the Nahal Arugot.
