Whilst the Indian are building the 'Statue of Unity’ to honor their first deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, which will stand at a gigantic height of 182 meters when completed. And that is to be the tallest statue in the world. Not only that, they are also planning to build even taller statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Mumbai to be 190 meters.
In the meantime, I'd like to introduce you about the 'World's Top 7 Tallest Statues',which can possibly be your next destination, if you ignore their history and religion because all these statues are built recently (after 1990) and 6 in 7 are related to Buddha.
1.Spring Temple Buddha - Loushan County, Henan, China
The ‘Spring Temple Buddha’ is regarded as the tallest statue in the world. The total height of the entire monument is 153 meters, which comprises of a 25 meter building, 20 meter tall lotus throne and the Buddha statue. Some 1100 pieces of copper casts are used in the construction of its lotus throne. A Buddhist monastery is situated beneath this statue and it is named after a nearby hot spring.
2.Laykyun Setkyar - Monywa, Myanmar
This is the second tallest statue in the world which manifests the Lord Buddha standing on a 13.5 meters tall throne and its total monumental height is 130 meters.. An elevator is provided inside the statue for reaching to the top to gain a brilliant view of the surroundings. Another statue of Lord Buddha in reclining posture is situated in front of the standing statue. The reclining statue holds the record of being the largest reclining Buddha statue in the world.
3.Ushiku Daibutsu - Ushiku, Japan
The third tallest statue in the world also represents the Lord Buddha’s colossal appearance. The 120 meters tall statue stands atop a 10 meter lotus throne. The statue depicts ‘Amitabh Buddha’ and it is completely cast in bronze. The statue hosts a four story building inside it, which serves as a museum with its topmost floors dedicated to serve as an observation deck. An elevator is available inside the statue to take the visitors to the observation deck .
4.Guan Yin of The South Sea of Sanya - Hainan, China
The Guanyin of the South Sea of Sanya statue represents the ‘Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara’. The statue has 116 meters height and it features three facets; one looks over the inland while the other two fix their gaze upon the South China Sea. One facet of this giant monument represents Guanyin holding a string of prayer beads with the palms crossed; second manifestation carries a sutra in the left hand depicting the ‘Vitarka Mudra’ by the other hand & the third representation holds a lotus.
5.Emperors Yan and Huang - Zhengzhou, Henan, China
The 106 meters tall statue is completely carved into a mountain over a period of 20 years, the World’s fifth tallest monument located near the Yellow River of Henan province.It represents two great ancient Emperors of China, namely, Yan Di and Huang Di. The monument is regarded as honor the politics & economics of the Chinese land. But for some, it also taken as China's reply to the US monument; Mount Rushmore.
6.Sendai Daikannon - Sendai, Japan
The magnificent white statue of Sendai Daikannon represents the Japanese Buddhist Bodhisattva which is often venerated as the Chinese goddess of Compassion. The statue is precisely 100 meters tall. A lift installed inside the statue takes the tourists to the top to get the breathtaking views of the lush green Sendai city. This beautiful statue of the goddess of compassion is located atop a hill & dominates the skyline of this adorable Japanese city.
7.Qianshou Qianyan Guanyin of Weishan - Changsha, Hunan, China.
The brilliant monument also called as Guishan Guanyin of the Thousand Hands and Eyes represents ‘Guanyin’ i.e. the Buddhist Avalokitesvara is the seventh tallest statue in the world and China's fourth. The bronze statue is 99 meters tall and is situated in the Weishan of the Hunan province. This splendid statue represents the Chinese goddess of compassion, having thousand hands.
